Avoid Burning Out While Preparing for the Days Ahead

In Matthew 24, Jesus tells us to “watch and be ready.” But how can we remain spiritually awake when we’re physically exhausted, emotionally drained, or disconnected from the people God gave us to walk this journey with?

The truth is, understanding the times we live in is only part of our calling. We must also steward our bodies, relationships, and spiritual lives so we don’t burn out before we finish the race.

If you're diving deep into prophecy, current events, or just trying to be faithful in hard times, don’t neglect these 5 areas:

1. Nutrition
Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Taking care of it enables you to serve others well and think clearly when discernment matters most. Eating real, God-given foods isn’t just about health—it’s about honoring the vessel God entrusted to you.

2. Rest
Even Jesus rested. In the whirlwind of news, warnings, and spiritual study, don’t neglect sleep. A tired mind can’t discern truth as clearly, and exhaustion can lead to despair. Sabbath rhythms are still relevant.

3. Exercise
The Apostle Paul often used athletic metaphors. Why? Because spiritual endurance has physical parallels. A strong body can support a strong spirit. Get moving. Steward your strength for the days ahead.

4. Family
In the end times, families will be tested. Relationships must be nurtured now, not just mended later. Your spouse, children, or community need your presence more than your prophecy charts. Be the salt and light in your own home first.

5. Recreation
Even prophets laughed. Even pastors play. God created joy, laughter, and beauty. It’s okay to enjoy a hike, a hobby, or a moment of creativity. These things remind us of the hope we hold.

As we prepare for what’s coming, let’s not burn out. Let’s burn bright.
